Easy Digital Downloads Software Licensing

Software Licensing is an Easy Digital Downloads extension for selling WordPress plugins, themes and any other software, including video games and desktop applications. It handles license key generation, activation and checking. Keys can be turned on for each product separately, and every product gets its own settings. Admins view and manage keys, each with a full details screen.

A JSON API covers license activation, deactivation, validation and latest version details, so software can check keys remotely. The renewal system sends automated email reminders when a license is about to expire, and customers renew in one click. You can set renewal discounts, renew keys by hand and see a report of renewals and earnings over time. It works with Recurring Payments for automatic renewals.

Upgrade paths let customers move between license levels, with prorated pricing and optional extra discounts. For WordPress plugins and themes, it adds one-click updates that follow core WordPress UI standards, with readme.txt parsing for update dialogs and support for beta versions. Git Download Updater distributes releases from GitHub or BitBucket.
